Santo Domingo \u2013 <\/strong>A total of 700 people died in traffic accidents during the first four months of this year, of which 70% were linked to the use of motorcycles, according to data provided by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT<\/a>) <\/strong>at the First National Forum for the Responsible Use of Motorcycles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the activity, the director of INTRANT, Milton Morrison,<\/strong> pointed out that traffic accidents continue to be one of the main causes of death in the country, and highlighted that for the first time a specific regulation will be implemented<\/strong> to regulate the use of motorcycles, in compliance with the Mobility Law 63-17<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the announced measures is the mandatory sale of motorcycles with at least one certified helmet, and the strengthening of requirements to obtain the type 01 license.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

The forum brought together representatives from the government, motoconcho associations, importers, international organizations, and digital platforms, who agreed on a roadmap with six key actions to reduce mortality on the roads. One of them is the restriction on the import of helmets that do not meet international standards, as well as the promotion of the “One motorcycle, one helmet” policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senator Shows Skepticism Towards Intrant Measures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Senator Antonio Marte<\/strong>, although present at the event, showed skepticism towards the INTRANT’s plan and suggested stopping the import of motorcycles<\/strong> as a measure to curb road tragedies. However, representatives of the motoconcho sector, such as Oscar Alm\u00e1nzar<\/strong> from FENAMOTO, supported the new regulations to reduce accidents.<\/p>\n\n\nMorrison announced that a mobile application will be launched next week along with a detailed report on accidents<\/strong>, as part of the institutional commitment to move towards safer mobility.
