Beijing.-<\/strong> Chinese President, Xi Jinping<\/strong>, and his American counterpart, Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong>, held a phone call<\/strong> this Thursday at the request of the Republican, reports the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The call comes after both countries agreed on a mutual tariff reduction in May<\/strong>, although in recent days Beijing has accused Washington of not complying with the agreement reached by implementing “extreme suppression” measures such as export controls on chips and the cancellation of visas for Chinese students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. Accuses China of Blocking New Licenses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For their part, in the U.S. they accuse China of blocking new export licenses for rare earths and other components necessary for semiconductors and automobiles.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Both powers had agreed to a three-month tariff truce whereby the U.S. committed to reduce its tariffs from 145% to 30%, and China from 125% to 10% in an attempt to open the door to a broader agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions Continue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

However, in recent days tensions have escalated over which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had pointed out that they could be unlocked with a call between both leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growing trade frictions add to an environment of political and strategic distrust, also reflected in the recent exchanges of statements during the Shangri-La security forum held in Singapore, where the head of the Pentagon accused China of wanting to alter the balance in Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
