Bogot\u00e1.-<\/strong> The Colombian senator and pre-presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay<\/a><\/strong>, wounded by a gunshot to the head in an attack last Saturday, shows \u00abindications of neurological improvement\u00bb<\/strong>, according to the new medical report released this Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n“Amid the severity of his clinical condition, there are signs of neurological improvement given by a decrease in cerebral edema,” stated the Santa Fe Foundation in a statement, where Uribe Turbay has been admitted for four days.\n\nThe medical report adds that “there is evidence of a trend towards hemodynamic stabilization” of the 39-year-old patient.\n\n\n

Hospital Vigil<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nThe politician, from the Uribista Democratic Center party, was shot on Saturday while participating in a rally in the Bogota neighborhood of Modelia<\/strong>, and underwent surgical intervention<\/strong> the same day at Santa Fe due to injuries sustained to the head and a leg.\n\nThe fifth medical report was released 72 hours after the surgery, which is the period expected by the doctors to have a better assessment of the patient’s condition.\n\n\n

“Mr. Uribe Turbay remains in critical condition and continues with strict neurological monitoring and comprehensive management with the required supports,” concludes the statement from the Santa Fe Foundation, one of the most prestigious in the country.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThis morning, upon completing 72 hours since the head surgery concluded, Mar\u00eda Carolina Hoyos Turbay, sister of the politician, said a prayer at the clinic entrance along with dozens of people who were participating in a vigil for her recovery.\n\nUribe Turbay is the grandson of former liberal president Julio C\u00e9sar Turbay, who governed Colombia between 1978 and 1982, while his mother, journalist Diana Turbay Quintero, was kidnapped and murdered in 1991 by drug traffickers in the service of drug lord Pablo Escobar.\n\nThe attacker, a 15-year-old<\/strong> who was arrested shortly after the attack in possession of a pistol, did not accept the charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons<\/strong> in a hearing of the Prosecutor’s Office held yesterday and was confined to a cell at the headquarters of that institution.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
