Caracas.-<\/strong> The president of Venezuela, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/strong>, who was sworn in for a third term after his questioned re-election, assured this Monday that Venezuelan airlines “are ready”<\/strong> to start traveling to the Dominican Republic, after the Dominican government indicated that it is still evaluating the eventual resumption of commercial flights between both countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are waiting, the Venezuelan private airlines are already ready to travel (…) the decision has been made, the ball is now in the Dominican government’s court, we want to reconnect, for the flights to return,”<\/strong> the president insisted on his television program ‘Con Maduro+.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may be interested in:<\/strong> US confiscates Maduro’s plane in the Dominican Republic<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nMaduro reported that the decision to reactivate the air route with the Dominican Republic was made after the singer Sergio Vargas asked him to do so in a meeting in Caracas, in which he decided to grant Venezuelan nationality posthumously to the Dominican merengue singer Rubby P\u00e9rez, who died after an accident in a Santo Domingo nightclub where he was performing last April.\n\n“He told me, ‘listen, Mr. President, I have to tell you something (…) there, the Dominican community and the Venezuelan community that lives in the Dominican Republic asked me to propose to you that the direct Caracas-Santo Domingo flights be reopened,'” said the Venezuelan president.\n\nIn response to this request, he continued, “I decided to reopen the Caracas-Santo Domingo flights to connect us with the Dominican Republic, our sister Dominican Republic with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”\n\nOn Sunday, the Dominican Republic said it is still analyzing the eventual resumption of commercial flights to Venezuela, after the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) of the South American country announced the restoration of these operations, suspended since July 2024 after the questioning of several countries for the proclamation of Maduro as the winner of the presidential elections.\n\nThe Dominican government, through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), “will responsibly evaluate and in strict adherence to the national interest any request to re-establish air routes, as is the case of Venezuela,” said the president of this organization, H\u00e9ctor Porcella, in a statement.\n\n“Until an official decision is issued, air operations between both countries remain suspended,” specified Porcella, who noted that “any decision in this area will be promptly reported through the corresponding institutional channels and through the official channels of the Dominican State.”\n\nThat same Sunday, INAC reported on its Instagram account about the resumption of passenger, cargo, and mail air operations to and from the Dominican Republic, although it did not confirm whether the measure came into effect immediately or gave more information.\n\nOn May 27th, commercial flights between Panama and Venezuela resumed, although diplomatic relations between both countries remain on hold, as with the Dominican Republic.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
