But it doesn&#8217;t matter, because they suck and we are cool,\u201d she said laughing, unleashing applause from the audience.\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\nFar from the Venetian yachts, Theron gathered figures from the world of cinema and music for a philanthropic purpose: to raise funds to support vulnerable young Africans, a cause she has been driving for years with great commitment.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A gala with a message<\/h3>\n\n\nAmong the guests at the gala were KiKi Layne, Henry Golding, and Rene\u00e9 Rapp, who performed some musical pieces during the night. Theron, visibly moved, thanked the attendees for supporting the work of her foundation at a time when &#8220;the world seems to be on fire.&#8221;\n\nBeyond the jokes, Charlize used the event to raise her voice on issues she considers urgent, including the recent immigration raids in California and the growing gender violence, as well as the setbacks in reproductive rights and the LGBTQ+ community.\n\n\u201cMigration policies have destroyed families; I am not talking about criminals, I am talking about hardworking people. There are fewer and fewer rights for women, the lives of queer and trans people are being erased, and gender violence is only increasing,\u201d she stated firmly. \u201cThis is not just a political issue, it is something deeply personal. Therefore: fuck the politicians!\u201d she concluded to an ovation.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your story with migration<\/h3>\n\n\nCharlize Theron knows firsthand what it means to deal with the American immigration system. At 19, she was deported from the country for exceeding the time allowed on her work visa.
