Arajet S.A.<\/strong>, commercially known as Arajet<\/a><\/strong>, is the flag carrier and the largest airline of the Dominican Republic. Based in Santo Domingo<\/a><\/strong>, this low-cost airline has transformed the country’s connectivity with the rest of America, positioning itself as a key player in Latin American aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origins as Dominican Wings<\/h2>\n\n\n

The story of Arajet began at the end of 2014 with the founding of Dominican Wings<\/strong>, which obtained its air operator certificate<\/strong> from the Dominican civil aviation authority. In its beginnings, it offered charter flights<\/strong> between the Dominican Republic and destinations such as Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina. Its first aircraft, an Airbus A320-200<\/strong> with registration HI968, was delivered on May 3, 2015<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transformation towards the low-cost model<\/h2>\n\n\nIn 2018<\/strong>, the company announced a radical transformation: it would stop operating charter flights to become an ultra-low-cost airline<\/strong>, backed by an investment of 60 million dollars<\/strong>. This change marked the starting point for its evolution towards a new brand.\n\n\n

Arajet is Born: A Caribbean Vision with Continental Projection<\/h2>\n\n\nIn September 2021<\/strong>, the entrepreneurs V\u00edctor Pacheco M\u00e9ndez<\/strong> and Mike Powell<\/strong> announced the rebranding to Arajet<\/strong>, with a new vision: to become the first Dominican low-cost airline with regular flights throughout the Caribbean, North America, Central America, and South America.\n\nThat same year, the Civil Aviation Board (JAC)<\/strong> approved the modification of the Economic Authorization Certificate<\/strong> to include 30 international routes<\/strong>. At the same time, the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC)<\/strong>, together with Arajet, certified two Dominican inspectors at Boeing facilities in the United States to supervise its new fleet.\n\n\n

First plane: national pride<\/h2>\n\n\nThe first Arajet aircraft was a Boeing 737 MAX 8<\/strong>, named \u201cPico Duarte\u201d<\/strong>, in honor of the highest point in the Caribbean. With registration HI-1026<\/strong>, the aircraft was received at the Las Am\u00e9ricas International Airport<\/strong> on March 3, 2022<\/strong>. This marked a milestone for Dominican aviation, as it was the first time it had a high operational efficiency aircraft under a national low-cost airline.\n\n\n

Official Launch and International Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On March 14, 2022<\/strong>, the official launch of Arajet<\/strong> took place at an event headed by President Luis Abinader<\/strong>, who highlighted that Arajet would have a majority of Dominican capital<\/strong>. During that event, Boeing<\/strong> confirmed an order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 200 aircraft<\/strong>, with an option for 15 more. The operation was backed by Bain Capital<\/strong> and Griffin Global Asset Management<\/strong>, two important firms in the financial and aeronautical sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First commercial flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first symbolic flight<\/strong> of Arajet took place on August 13, 2022<\/strong>, from Santo Domingo to Bogot\u00e1, with a delegation of entrepreneurs, diplomats, and opinion leaders. The official start of commercial operations<\/strong> occurred on September 15, 2022<\/strong>, with a flight to Barranquilla, Colombia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accelerated Expansion and Regional Leadership<\/h2>\n\n\nSince then, Arajet has experienced a significant expansion<\/strong>. As of June 2025<\/strong>, the airline operates flights to 27 destinations in 18 countries<\/strong>, with more than 130 weekly frequencies<\/strong> from its two hubs<\/strong>: Santo Domingo<\/strong> and Punta Cana<\/strong>. It has added strategic connections in North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean.\n\n\n
