Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- The Dominican Association of Sports Betting (ADOBAD) denounces that nearly 20,000 jobs would be at risk if the bill to regulate, supervise and combat money laundering in gambling, as sent to the National Congress, is approved.<\/p>\n
Francisco P\u00e9rez, a member of ADOBAD, assured that they currently have more than three thousand 500 sports betting establishments, which contribute to the Gross Domestic Product of the nation and to the economy, which would be affected by the piece that was submitted via the Senate of the Republic, by the Executive Branch.<\/p>\n
He expressed that the legislative document, proposed by the President of the Republic, also opens the doors to the indiscriminate expansion of gambling in the country, because according to him, it would allow the commercialization of virtual electronic games in establishments that lack locative conditions that offer minimum safety standards for access to such products and services.<\/p>\n
He described the executive proposal as a potential catastrophe, which would have a devastating effect on Dominican families, due to the accessibility that minors would have to gambling, leading Dominican society to a major chaos that the State itself will not be able to control.<\/p>\n
For the Association, the bill suffers from numerous errors and structural failures, therefore, if approved, it would deepen the disorder, harming the legal security of the investments made so far.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that the sanctioning of the bill would annihilate the effectiveness of the regularization plan undertaken by the Government itself, following decree 63-22, dated February 9, 2022.<\/p>\n
Whereas, Nicol\u00e1s Baham\u00f3n, consultant for the entity, pointed out that the piece was made without consulting important actors in the sector.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that the sanctioning of the bill would annihilate the effectiveness of the regularization plan undertaken by the Government itself, following decree 63-22, dated February 9, 2022.<\/p>\n
“This bill appears suddenly, without consulting the organizations that group the entrepreneurs who operate casinos and sports betting shops. Only the interests of the concessionaires, the horse racing agencies and the lottery shops were taken into account,” asserted Baham\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
The ADOBAD representative said that “those who have made the necessary investments to adapt their premises to the requirements established by Law 29-06 would be harmed, as these games may be marketed at any point of sale of games of chance.”<\/p>\n
He said that the tax scheme contemplated in the bill presented by the Executive Branch generates conditions so harmful to the sports betting sector that they would motivate the conversion of the same into horse racing agencies or other types of establishments that, according to the text presented to Congress, are exempt from paying operating taxes.<\/p>\n
He concluded by saying that “this situation would generate an appreciable reduction in the amount of taxes that the State is called upon to collect, as there would be an overwhelming escalation of clandestine gambling.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
