{"id":473966,"date":"2025-07-04T07:37:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T11:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/kyiv-awakens-amidst-explosions-and-smoke-in-the-midst-of-one-of-the-worst-russian-attacks\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T07:37:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T11:37:00","slug":"kyiv-awakens-amidst-explosions-and-smoke-in-the-midst-of-one-of-the-worst-russian-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/kyiv-awakens-amidst-explosions-and-smoke-in-the-midst-of-one-of-the-worst-russian-attacks\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyiv awakens amidst explosions and smoke in the midst of one of the worst Russian attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"Kyiv, July 4 (EFE).- A lone Shahed drone passed shortly after eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday over the Babin Yar forest, located on the outskirts of Kyiv and the scene of the shooting by the Nazis of tens of thousands of Jews more than eighty years ago in what was one of the worst massacres of the Second World War.\n\nA few minutes later, when the drone could no longer be seen from the forest, the buzzing of the small unmanned aircraft gave way to the roar of machine guns trying to hit it as it approached, losing altitude to the target in another part of the city.\n\nThe arrival in Ukrainian territory of this drone, the first of many that would fall on Kyiv during the early hours, occurred hours after another call from the US President, Donald Trump, to the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, to unsuccessfully ask him to lay down arms.\n\nNight fell on the Ukrainian capital and the most cautious neighbors sought refuge in the metro stations with mattresses and mats to sleep on and with toys and puzzles to entertain the children.\n\nOn the surface, most people continued to live normally until the curfew began at midnight.\n\nBefore the streets emptied, the explosions that would continue until morning had already begun again.\n\nThey were repetitive and less powerful when the Ukrainian Army’s mobile patrols fired at the Shahed with machine guns to shoot them down and when the air defense missiles impacted with the Russian attack missiles that the Ukrainian Air Force did manage to intercept.\n\nAfter a practically sleepless night due to these noises – and those of the direct impacts of the drones and missiles that could not be intercepted – the inhabitants of Kyiv went out into the street to go to work, have coffee, or take their children to school with the air polluted by the smoke from one of the many fires caused by the attack.\n\n\n

Anguish and destruction in Solomiansky<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nSeveral of these fires were extinguished by firefighters in the capital’s Solomianski district, where the attack destroyed several apartments in a residential building, an office of the private postal company Nova Poshta, and a supermarket.\n\nNext to the affected buildings, where rescue services were clearing debris after attending to the injured, the usual scenes in this type of situation could be seen: neighbors and merchants stoically sweeping up fragments of glass and inspecting the damage to cars and balconies.\n\nNear these buildings, electrical infrastructure was also destroyed in the attack. Next to the construction, several cars placed vertically by the power of the explosion formed a mountain of iron that some neighbors photographed with their mobile phones.\n\n“I’m not in the mood to say anything,” declared to EFE a resident in one of the buildings next to the electrical infrastructure while picking up debris in front of the broken windows of his house on the ground floor.\n\nBehind the destroyed electrical infrastructure, a woman cleaned the interior of a classroom in a public educational center hit by the shockwave.\n\nUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the latest Russian attack on the capital is another demonstration that Russia “has no intention of ending the war and terror” against Ukrainians.\n\n“It has been a brutal and sleepless night,” Zelensky wrote on the social network X about what Ukrainians in Kyiv have experienced in the last few hours.\n\nThis Friday, the Ukrainian leader plans to speak by phone with Trump, to whom he will again ask him to act to force Putin to end the war.\n\nMarcel Gasc\u00f3n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
