S\u00e1bana Yegua, Azua.- The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Department of Plant Health and the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, is starting the ban on host products of whiteflies and thrips in order to guarantee healthy crops in this area, after the prohibition period ends.<\/p>\n
With this provision, the aim is to cut off the life cycle of both insects during the closed season, due to the damage they cause to production, especially of industrial tomatoes, as well as important items in the basic basket, such as onions, beans, and other vegetables.<\/p>\n
The prohibition of crops such as eggplant, melon, watermelon, cucumber, pumpkin, all types of peppers, squash, cotton and other products that are proven to be hosts of the whitefly and\/or viruses is established from July 1st to September 30th.<\/p>\n
The measure is included in resolution RES-MARD-2024-9 and covers the communities of Esteban\u00eda, Arroyo Colorado, Memiso, La China, Las Ca\u00f1as, La Laja, Las Yayas, Viajama, T\u00e1bara Arriba, Monte Grande, Nuevo Sabana Yegua, Pueblo Viejo and other demarcations of the province of Azua.<\/p>\n
Eulalio Ram\u00edrez, Vice Minister of Production and Marketing of the entity, stated that the resolution governs the policies that establish the zoning of crop planting at the national level to prevent and reduce damage caused by pests and diseases, and that this ban is framed within the program and the date for the southern zone established by the agricultural entity.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that these programs have been essential, “control with the ban, integrated pest management, quarantine programs and others serve to prevent the entry of raw materials or materials that may introduce pests that we do not have, has been a provision of the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, and President Luis Abinader”<\/p>\n
For her part, the director of the Plant Health Department, Rosa Lazala, stated that the ban is extremely important, and the best example is the green bean, which last year had a successful production due to the measures adopted.<\/p>\n
