“With this law we seek to set clear limits on the irresponsible use of emerging technologies that are being used to impersonate faces, voices and actions for malicious purposes,” said Valera.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The project includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Prison sentences of 3 to 10 years<\/strong> for creators and marketers of unauthorized deepfake content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Fines of up to 500 minimum wages<\/strong> for those who disseminate it, even if they are not the authors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Aggravated sanctions<\/strong> if the victims are minors, pregnant women, or if it is intimate content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Immediate removal of the material<\/strong> on digital platforms and blocking of repeat offender accounts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Mandatory cooperation<\/strong> of technology companies with operations or users in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\nValera pointed out that this legislation is preventive and urgent<\/strong>, and called on his fellow legislators to support it: \u201cIt is not just about protecting reputation, but the freedom, privacy and dignity of every Dominican in the digital age\u201d.\n\nThe proposal was sent to the Artificial Intelligence Commission of the Chamber of Deputies<\/strong>.\n\nThe project was developed in conjunction with Miguel Almanzar<\/strong>, Secretary of Youth of the National Civic Will Party (PNVC)<\/strong>, and is inspired by similar legislation promoted by Melania Trump<\/strong> and enacted this year in the U.S. by former President Donald Trump<\/strong>.
