Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> Former President Danilo Medina<\/strong> called on the international community this Sunday to take an active role in resolving the Haitian crisis, emphasizing that the country cannot bear this responsibility alone.<\/p>\n

Upon leaving the PLD leaders’ assembly held in Dajab\u00f3n, Medina responded to the press that he is currently participating with President Luis Abinader and other former Dominican presidents in a joint initiative to present an international position on the situation in Haiti, the organization said in a note.<\/p>\n

“What we have tried to do is to get the world to come to the aid of Haiti, because the Dominican Republic cannot bear the problems of Haiti,” said the former president.<\/p>\n

The president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) emphasized the urgency of international organizations, especially the United Nations, assisting in the search for sustainable and permanent solutions for the neighboring nation.<\/p>\n

“Our country is a poor country and cannot bear two poor peoples at once,” Medina pointed out, who governed two consecutive four-year terms.<\/p>\n

Medina also answered questions about the recent appointment of economist Mag\u00edn D\u00edaz as Minister of Finance by the current government, categorically clarifying that D\u00edaz has no partisan ties with the PLD.<\/p>\n

“Mag\u00edn is a technocrat from the country, whom all the governments that have passed through the State have taken into account,” Medina indicated.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the former president recalled that D\u00edaz began his political career in the PRD government with Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda, continued with former president Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez, and continued during his own administration in a prominent position.<\/p>\n

“I distinguished him with the highest position, but now the PRM beat me by distinguishing him as Minister of Finance. In other words, he has been in the four governments that the country has had, from 2000 to date,”<\/strong> he pointed out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
