These absences leave Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the circuit’s second-ranked player, as a major contender for the win alongside German Alexander Zverev, winner in 2017.<\/p>\n
Sinner was champion of the Canadian Masters 1,000 in 2023 and Djokovic has won it four times, although the last time was in 2016. The Australian Alexei Popyrin is the current champion and the Spaniard Pablo Carre\u00f1o won it in 2022.<\/p>\n
The Canadian Masters 1,000 is a tournament that, so far, Carlos Alcaraz, champion of Roland Garros and finalist at Wimbledon this season, has resisted. In addition to the winner of five Grand Slam titles, the American Taylor Fritz, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti and the Dane Holger Rune are listed as attractions of the tournament along with the locals Felix Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov.<\/p>\n
The Spaniard Roberto Carball\u00e9s, the Austrian Sebastian Ofner, and the Russian Roman Safiullin will take the places of Sinner, Djokovic, and Draper in Toronto.<\/p>\n
Alcaraz, who reached the quarterfinals in Canada two seasons ago, has the possibility of cutting points in the world ranking to Sinner. The player from Murcia did not play this tournament last year, so he is not defending anything in this edition.
