Santo Domingo.<\/strong>\u2013 The spokesperson for the bloc of deputies of the Fuerza del Pueblo, Rafael Castillo,<\/strong> assured that his political organization is ready to approve the Penal Code<\/strong> project as it was recently approved by the Senate of the Republic, without introducing new modifications.<\/p>\n\n\nCastillo affirmed that, regarding the three grounds for abortion, there would no longer be talk of three but of two, because the ground that contemplates the risk to the mother’s life is already protected by the Constitution and included in the same penal code that is being discussed.\n\n\n

Because when the mother is in danger, that is already established in the Constitution, that is in the same code that is going to be approved,” said the legislator.\n\nHe indicated that since Fuerza del Pueblo, work has been done to ensure that all observations are incorporated from the Senate, so that the project reaches the Chamber of Deputies in a position to be approved without the need for major changes.\n\n“We sent our observations to the Senate so that the piece would come as corrected as possible. If we don’t have to make any modifications, even better,” he said.\n\nCastillo reiterated that his bloc is committed to approving the code during this legislature, and that they will work “until the necessary time” to achieve it. He also called on the Senate to consider the Labor Code project in the coming days, while the deputies focus on the Penal Code.\n\nFinally, he highlighted the urgency for the country to have a new criminal legal framework.\n\n“The most important thing is that the Dominican Republic can have that code that it so desires, that it so yearns for, and that the legal community has insatiably requested.”","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
