{"id":476888,"date":"2025-07-30T18:31:56","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T22:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/las-mercedes-street-reopens-in-the-colonial-city\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T18:31:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T22:31:56","slug":"las-mercedes-street-reopens-in-the-colonial-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/las-mercedes-street-reopens-in-the-colonial-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Mercedes Street reopens in the Colonial City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> The Minister of <strong>Tourism, David Collado<\/strong>, inaugurated this Wednesday the renovated Juan Pablo Duarte park and put into operation the restored <strong>Las Mercedes street in the Colonial City<\/strong>, as part of the rehabilitation program in that emblematic and tourist area of the Dominican capital, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1990.<\/p>\n\n\nA Tourism statement emphasized that the works are part of the Integral Program of Tourist and Urban Development Ciudad Colonial, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with an investment of 90 million dollars.\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ab.deultimominuto.net\/tv\/que-pasa-con-los-guias-de-la-zona-colonial\/\" data-type=\"tv\" data-id=\"506767\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHAT&#8217;S HAPPENING WITH THE GUIDES OF THE COLONIAL ZONE?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nIn the act, Minister Collado highlighted the importance of those two works and pointed out the historical value of the rescue of the emblematic Duarte park, in addition to its tourist attraction.\n\nRegarding the symbolic Las Mercedes street, the official explained that it is part of the Prioritized Streets project, which seeks to convert the roads of the Colonial City into more habitable, walkable, inclusive, and accessible public spaces for its residents, merchants, and visitors.\n\n&#8220;These two works have extraordinary value in this whole effort of total transformation of our beautiful and historic Colonial City,&#8221; said Minister Collado.\n\nAmong the refurbishment works of Duarte Park, lighting was included, new landscaping, planting of new trees, new signage, pavement with permeable pavers and designed with universal accessibility.\n\nThe Las Mercedes street is 715 meters long and the work carried out consists of new pavement on the roadway and sidewalks, with concrete slabs.\n\nThis prioritized streets project focuses on the rehabilitation of 4.7 kilometers of streets, including the renovation of pavements, sidewalks, hydro-sanitary, electrical and telecommunications networks, as well as a pilot plan for electromobility and waste management.\n\nThe prioritized streets are Las Damas, El Conde, Hostos, Luper\u00f3n, Salom\u00e9 Ure\u00f1a, Duarte, March 19, Jos\u00e9 Reyes, Las Mercedes, Archbishop Nouel and Padre Billini.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated this Wednesday the renovated Juan Pablo Duarte park and put into operation the restored Las Mercedes street in the Colonial City, as part of the rehabilitation program in that emblematic and tourist area of the Dominican capital, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1990.
