Strategies for the control of leptospirosis continue to be strengthened, with emphasis on rodent control, whose presence tends to increase during the rainy season.\n\nMeanwhile, the Dr. Defill\u00f3 National Reference Laboratory processed 24 respiratory samples, confirming the active circulation of multiple respiratory viruses, including the circulation of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09, Adenovirus, Coronavirus SARS-COV2, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus.\n\nSimilarly, cases of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) in the country amount to 186. During SE-33, no new cases of COVID-19 were reported.\n\nMaternal and infant deaths\n\nIn SE-33, four maternal deaths were reported, of which three correspond to Dominican women and one to a woman of Haitian nationality. The accumulated total is 104 deaths, representing a 5% decrease compared to 2024, which recorded 109 deaths for the same period.\n\nIn addition, 29 infant deaths were reported, for a cumulative total of 1,111 deaths. The Ministry of Public Health, in conjunction with the National Health Service, has implemented various strategies to reduce maternal and infant mortality, including the improvement of prenatal and postnatal care, the strengthening of obstetric and neonatal services, and the continuous training of health personnel.\n\nThe central theme of Bulletin Se-33 is about dengue fever and the importance of the “International Dengue Day.” The date aims to raise awareness about the prevention of this disease. In 2025, the WHO has recorded 1.5 million cases and more than a thousand deaths worldwide.\n\nDengue is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which reproduces in stagnant water.
