{"id":480502,"date":"2025-08-29T13:36:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T17:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/coraasan-director-urges-the-population-to-use-water-rationally-in-the-face-of-drought-affecting-santiago\/"},"modified":"2025-08-29T13:36:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T17:36:31","slug":"coraasan-director-urges-the-population-to-use-water-rationally-in-the-face-of-drought-affecting-santiago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/uncategorized\/coraasan-director-urges-the-population-to-use-water-rationally-in-the-face-of-drought-affecting-santiago\/","title":{"rendered":"Coraasan Director urges the population to use water rationally in the face of drought affecting Santiago"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>Santiago.<\/strong> &#8211; The director of the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coraasan.gob.do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coraasan<\/a>), engineer Andr\u00e9s Cueto, called on the population this Friday to make rational use of drinking water, due to the drought affecting the upper basin of the Yaque del Norte river and which has caused a reduction in the level of the Tavera-Bao reservoir.\n\nThe official reported that the dam is at 314.55 meters above sea level (MASL), below its optimal operating level (322.50 MASL) and the maximum operational level (327.50 MASL), which has forced the intake to be stopped through the first gate of the reservoir.\n\nCueto explained that the water deficit has reduced production in the Cibao Central aqueduct by 23 million gallons per day (MGD), equivalent to 20%, mainly affecting the sectors of the upper part of Santiago and the La Dura system in Moca.\n\nHe warned that if the downward trend continues, the supply could be further compromised in the high areas of the city, although he clarified that the other distribution systems are still operating normally.\n\nTo mitigate the situation, Coraasan implemented adjustments to the distribution program, sent tanker trucks to the most affected sectors, and intensified the repair of breakdowns to prevent losses.
