Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her “indignation” at the existence of a website where stolen or modified photos of famous and Italian politicians, including the Prime Minister herself, were posted, along with sexist comments, and asked that those responsible be sanctioned “without concessions”.<\/p>\n
“I am outraged by what has happened and I want to express my solidarity and support to all the women who have been offended, insulted and violated in their privacy by the administrators of this forum and its users,” said the far-right leader in statements published this Friday by the newspaper “Corriere della Sera”.<\/p>\n
Meloni explained that “it is disheartening to observe that in 2025, there are still those who consider it normal and legitimate to trample on the dignity of a woman and attack her with sexist and vulgar insults, hiding behind anonymity or a keyboard.”<\/p>\n
Therefore, he trusted that “the competent authorities will ensure that those responsible are identified as soon as possible and sanctioned with the utmost firmness, without concessions” and recalled that in Italy “the dissemination of content that intends to remain private without consent is a crime and is called ‘revenge porn'”.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, irritation is growing in Italy over this website with nearly 200,000 subscribers that included photos taken from their social media or photomontages of the prime minister, her sister Arianna, and the secretary of the main opposition party, the Democratic Party (PD), Elly Schlein.<\/p>\n
Also from actresses like Paola Cortelesi or the influential Chiara Ferragni, and from other famous people or anonymous women that subscribers commented on with vulgar and sexist phrases, in a case that arises after the closure of a Facebook group in which husbands and partners posted intimate photos of their partners, without their knowledge, for the rest to comment on them.<\/p>\n
PD MEP Alessandra Moretti denounced that the sexist website “had been stealing her photos and fragments of television programs for years, editing them and publishing them online.”<\/p>\n
“This type of website incites rape and violence. I urge everyone to report it. We have seen numerous examples of how women are exposed and treated as currency,” Moretti told the media.<\/p>\n
And he added that “denying or minimizing the severity of these phenomena means neglecting the safety of women and the level of civility of a country”.<\/p>\n
The media explain the difficulty of closing down this type of website because the operator is anonymous and the provider manages from abroad.<\/p>\n
