The announcement was made by the <strong>Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame<\/strong>, chaired by <strong>Dionisio Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong>, who confirmed that the former shortstop will be immortalized during the <strong>59th Exaltation Ceremony<\/strong>, scheduled for <strong>Sunday, November 16<\/strong> in the auditorium of the Hall, located in the <strong>Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center<\/strong>.\n\n<strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ab.deultimominuto.net\/deportes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Edwin Encarnaci\u00f3n will be inducted into the Dominican Republic Sports Hall of Fame<\/a>\n\nReyes, affectionately known as <strong>\u201cLa Melaza\u201d<\/strong>, joins <strong>Edwin Encarnaci\u00f3n<\/strong> and <strong>Jos\u00e9 Offerman<\/strong>, selected by the chapter of the <strong>Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM)<\/strong>, thus completing the enrollment of exalted players this year. Along with them, the sports glories <strong>Gonzalo Mej\u00eda<\/strong> and <strong>Beato Miguel Cruz<\/strong> will also be recognized as promoters.\n\n&#8220;Reyes, Offerman, and Encarnaci\u00f3n represent a golden generation of our baseball, and their induction into the Hall is a deserved recognition of their extraordinary careers,&#8221; said Guzm\u00e1n, who will lead the induction ceremony accompanied by <strong>businessman Manuel Estrella<\/strong>, appointed Honorary President of the ceremony.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Race for the Ages<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\nBorn on <strong>June 11, 1983<\/strong> in <strong>Santiago de los Caballeros<\/strong>, Jos\u00e9 Reyes signed as an amateur with the <strong>New York Mets<\/strong>, the team with which he debuted in the Major Leagues and achieved star status. His <strong>16-season<\/strong> career included stints with <strong>Miami, Toronto<\/strong> and <strong>Colorado<\/strong>, leaving numbers that place him among the best Dominican shortstops of all time.\n\nReyes accumulated <strong>2,138 hits<\/strong> in <strong>1,877 games<\/strong>, with a batting average of <strong>.283<\/strong>. In addition, he hit <strong>145 home runs, 131 triples, 387 doubles<\/strong> and drove in <strong>719 runs<\/strong>, scoring <strong>1,180<\/strong>. His speed on the bases made him a constant threat, achieving <strong>517 stolen bases<\/strong>, ranking <strong>33<\/strong> in MLB history.\n\nHe won <strong>four triples leaderships<\/strong> (2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011), <strong>three stolen bases championships<\/strong> (2005, 2006 and 2007), a hits leadership (2008) and topped the <strong>National League<\/strong> in official at-bats on two occasions.
