Santo Domingo.<\/strong> – National Congress legislators regretted the 5-year prison sentence for money laundering from drug trafficking against former deputy Rosa Amalia Pilarte.<\/p>\n

In that sense, the President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, described the sentence as regrettable, but understands that each person is responsible for their actions.<\/p>\n

De los Santos added that this type of condemned calls for a review of the filters of the people who aspire to the different candidacies within the political parties.<\/p>\n

Likewise, Senator Mois\u00e9s Ayala stated that it is a pity, but it is what justice has determined, thus demonstrating the independent role of the Public Ministry.<\/p>\n

The Public Ministry arrested former congresswoman Rosa Amalia Pilarte L\u00f3pez this Wednesday, after executing the irrevocable sentence that condemns her to five years in prison for money laundering from drug trafficking.<\/p>\n

The arrest was carried out in La Vega by the Fugitives, Rebels and Convicts Capture Unit (Ucaprec), after a raid led by prosecutors Andry De Los Santos and Sourelly Jaquez. Pilarte was transferred to serve her sentence at the Rafey Women’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in Santiago.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court of Justice had upheld the sentence imposed in 2024, which also includes the payment of 200 minimum wages, court costs, and the millionaire seizure of assets acquired through the money laundering network headed by her husband, Miguel Arturo (Micky) L\u00f3pez Florencio, in which her children also participated.<\/p>\n

According to the Public Ministry, Pilarte moved more than RD$4.418 billion in the financial system, despite the fact that in almost two decades he only reported formal income of about RD$16 million. Among the seized assets are land, commercial premises and properties in La Vega and Jarabacoa, valued at billions of pesos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
