Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated this Wednesday during a visit to India that both countries are fighting “a common battle against radical Islamic terrorism”, at a time of diplomatic tension between Israel and Spain and recent jihadist attacks in Indian Kashmir.<\/p>\n
“India and Israel are fighting a war of good against evil. It’s the same war here and in Israel. Both India and Israel suffer from the hypocrisy of the international community, of countries that try to prevent us from responding to these terrorist threats,” Smotrich told the media during an event held yesterday in the Indian city of Bombay.<\/p>\n
Israel and India have “common friends and common enemies” and are fighting “a common battle against radical Islamic terrorism, which represents a threat to the entire free world,” he added.<\/p>\n
Smotrich and the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, were vetoed from entering Spain last Tuesday by the Spanish Government, after Israel prohibited the entry into its country of the second Spanish Vice President, Yolanda D\u00edaz, and the Minister of Childhood and Youth, Sira Rego.<\/p>\n
The words of the Israeli minister seek to resonate with India’s prolonged conflict in the disputed region of Kashmir, where the Indian government has been fighting for decades against Islamist militant groups that, according to New Delhi, receive support and funding from Pakistan.<\/p>\n
India has made the fight against “cross-border terrorism” a cornerstone of its foreign policy, actively seeking the support of its allies in international forums. This stance has served to justify military actions such as the bombing of a suspected terrorist camp in Pakistan last May.<\/p>\n
India has recognized Palestine as a state since 1988 and, regarding the current Gaza war, has maintained a position favorable to the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the area through dialogue and diplomacy.<\/p>\n
