Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told Parliament on Wednesday that, following the violation of airspace by Russian drones, “we are closer to open conflict than at any other time since World War II.”<\/p>\n
“Poland has a political enemy beyond its eastern border,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n
Tusk reported that a total of “19 airspace violations” were detected and that “for the first time during this war (of Ukraine), the devices did not come from Ukraine, but from Belarus”, and stressed that the incursions “cannot be said to have been the result of errors, loss of drone control or small Russian provocations”.<\/p>\n
“For the first time, a significant part of these drones flew over Poland directly from Belarus,” the prime minister pointed out.<\/p>\n
For his part, Polish President Karol Nawrocki described the events as an “unprecedented moment” in the history of NATO and in Poland’s recent history.<\/p>\n
Tusk also said he hoped that “we all take these joint calls from the president and me seriously.”<\/p>\n
“I emphasize this, and the president emphasizes our unity on this matter, because we expect this duality of voices – after all, we don’t always act in harmony – to also have a sobering effect on the more sensitive commentators and politicians, who in such a situation unnecessarily seek a platform for conflict or internal dispute. These are currently excluded, and I am convinced that you understand this too,” he assured.<\/p>\n
