Who was Kirk?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nKirk became known, at just 18 years old, in 2012, after founding Turning Point and organizing university tours where he debated with liberal students, which catapulted him as a conservative youth reference.\n\nHis popular event series called ‘Prove Me Wrong’ became very popular and this September 10th attracted opponents and supporters to the university campus in Utah.\n\nA decade later Kirk, married and with two young children, became a direct ally of Trump, with whom he appeared publicly at the White House in 2019 during visits by young conservatives and later with an active role in campaign rallies in 2024.\n\nKirk had stated in April 2023 that firearm deaths were “unfortunately” a price worth paying to preserve the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees the right to bear arms, a comment he made after a shooting at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, in which three adults and three children died.\n\n\n

A breeding ground for conservatives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nTurning Point USA was born with the aim of spreading conservative and free market values on US university campuses and has grown into a key forum in the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.\n\nBased in Arizona, the entity has grown rapidly and today maintains a presence in hundreds of universities and high schools. Its annual conferences bring together thousands of young people and prominent figures from the Republican Party.\n\nIn addition to its youth activism, Turning Point has become a space of support for former President Trump. The organization mobilizes volunteers, organizes political training, and has established itself as a visible arm of the MAGA movement in the student sphere.\n\nKirk was born in Arlington Heights, north of Chicago, in 1993, and grew up in a middle-class family with Christian roots, his father worked in real estate, while his mother took care of the home, according to reports from media such as Politico.\n\nDuring his time at Wheeling High School, he got involved in student debates and began to take an interest in Republican ideas, as he has said in interviews, adding that he was not a great student, so he did not study at university, but he approached politics at an early age.\n\n\n

Controversial Opinions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\nCharlie Kirk generated controversy for his stances against migration, feminism, and diversity on campuses, which has earned him criticism and confrontation with Democratic leaders.\n\nDuring the covid-19 crisis, the activist downplayed the severity of the situation by comparing it to historical catastrophes, stating on X: “We have a pandemic, but, by historical standards, this is not really a pandemic (…) by historical standards, we are actually living a very, very good life.”\n\nIn 2020, he was parodied on South Park, where a character imitated his provocative debate style that has become his trademark, and Kirk responded on social media that he saw it as “a badge of honor,” although he accused the show of ridiculing conservatives.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
