The King and Queen of Spain were received this Thursday at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace (Heliopolis) in Cairo by the President of Egypt, Abdelfatah El-Sisi, and the First Lady, Entissar Amer El-Sisi, in the official welcome they offered them at the beginning of the second day of their first state visit to this country.<\/p>\n
Upon their arrival, both heads of state listened to the national anthems of the two countries before a guard of honor, while the national anthems were played and the queen and the first lady attended the ceremony at the palace door.<\/p>\n
Felipe VI and Do\u00f1a Letizia began the day earlier with a floral offering at the Unknown Soldier Monument, a pyramid-shaped construction in the Cairo district of ‘Nasr City’ and whose construction was ordered by President Anwar Sadat in 1974 in honor of the Egyptians who died in the Yom Kippur War and inaugurated almost half a century ago.<\/p>\n
A monument that was also chosen for the tomb of President Sadat after his assassination in October 1981.<\/p>\n
Once in the palace, the kings of Spain, Al-Sisi and the First Lady of Egypt have greeted the delegations, before holding separate meetings, which has given way to a bilateral meeting between both delegations.<\/p>\n
On behalf of the head of the Spanish State, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares; the head of the Royal Household, Camilo Villarino; the Spanish ambassador to Egypt, \u00c1lvaro Iranzo, and the Secretary of State for Trade, Amparo L\u00f3pez Senovilla, attended.<\/p>\n
The Egyptian delegation has been made up of President Al-Sisi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, Abdr Abdelatt, and Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan Al-Khatib, among others.<\/p>\n
In this institutional day, the King of Spain will receive the Collar of the Nile, the highest decoration awarded by Egypt, and Queen Letizia the Order of Al Kamal, while Al Sisi has been decorated with the Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic and the First Lady of Egypt, the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic.<\/p>\n
Following these acts, the kings will attend the lunch offered in their honor at the palace and, in the afternoon, Felipe VI will meet with the President of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Hanafy El-Gabali, and with the President of the Senate, Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek.<\/p>\n
