The Austrian Federal Chancellor, Christian Stocker<\/a>, described this Wednesday the recent violations of airspace with drones – supposedly Russian – in several European countries, as a “dangerous provocation” that can lead to a greater escalation.<\/p>\n

In statements to the press upon his arrival at the informal summit of European Union (EU) leaders in Copenhagen, the conservative assured that “the suspicion is clear that Russia is not unrelated to this and there are also indications pointing in this direction.”<\/p>\n

“These airspace violations, which affect not only Denmark, but also the Baltic States, Poland and also Romania, are completely unacceptable,” Stocker said.<\/p>\n

He added that this constitutes “a provocation that is very dangerous because it offers space for further escalation”.<\/p>\n

“And that shows how necessary it is that we increase and also improve our willingness to defend,” Stocker stated.<\/p>\n

In that sense, the Austrian president recalled that his country – which is neutral and does not belong to NATO – has just announced a reinforcement of the capabilities and infrastructure of its Army.<\/p>\n

Stocker concluded that Europe should not rely on what he called “false security”, especially when recent statements by Russian politicians make it clear that Europe is threatened.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
