The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency (AEAI), Mohamed Eslami<\/a>, stated this Tuesday that his country’s withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) “is not on the agenda” after the reimposition of United Nations sanctions.<\/p>\n

“The outcome of the JCPOA is not on the country’s agenda,” said the Iranian vice president after the weekly Cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n

Eslami indicated at the same time that “the corresponding authorities must make decisions on this matter” in an apparent reference to the Supreme National Security Council, a body that includes the president, Masud Pezeshkian, representatives of the supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, and the military chiefs of the Persian country.<\/p>\n

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency once again called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to condemn Israeli and US attacks on its nuclear facilities in the June war.<\/p>\n

After that war, Iran froze cooperation with the IAEA, although it later reached an agreement to collaborate with the international body, a pact that it suspended when the UN re-imposed sanctions against the Persian country for its nuclear program on September 28, in a measure promoted by the United Kingdom, Germany and France.<\/p>\n

Before UN sanctions were reimposed, Iranian parliamentarians prepared a law to abandon the NPT, but the bill was not voted on in the chamber and the Government assured that such a decision would not be made in Parliament.<\/p>\n
