Women from 77 countries and territories, including Latin America and Spain, will compete this Saturday in Thailand for the crown of Miss Grand International (MGI), the popular women’s beauty pageant created in 2013 under the slogan “Stop the war and violence”.<\/p>\n
The competitors, about twenty from Latin America and the Caribbean, landed at the end of September in Bangkok for the preliminary activities that extended until Wednesday, when a gala took place in which each one paraded separately in a swimsuit and with an evening gown.<\/p>\n
At the end of that presentation, the representative of Spain, Aitana Jim\u00e9nez, told EFE that this platform allows the winner to “contribute a little to the world” by becoming a spokesperson for peace and spreading “crumbs of hope”.<\/p>\n
“Beauty cannot change the world but it can contribute to it,” assures the Canarian, a Psychology student, who defends the importance of “forging a strong mind” among young people to defend causes such as non-violence.<\/p>\n
Also consulted about the pageant’s slogan, Venezuela’s contestant, Nariman Battikha, believes that conflicts can be resolved if addressed from the beginning and quickly.<\/p>\n
“When you teach young people education, values, empathy and love, they will build a generation that will never choose violence over peace,” he said.<\/p>\n
For her part, the delegate from Mexico, Monserrat Villalva, spoke of her desire to become an example for young people who, like her, believe that a world without wars is possible.<\/p>\n
“The solution to war is empathy. When I noticed that this contest was based on saying no to war and that we really seek peace, I said, that’s the contest I want to be in,” he recounted.<\/p>\n
Unlike Miss Universe, which will also be held in Thailand on November 21, MGI does not admit transgender participants.<\/p>\n
The final gala will be held this Saturday in Bangkok, where the winner will receive the crown from the hands of the Filipina Christine Juliane Opiaza, who placed second in 2024 but assumed the title in June, after the Indian Rachel Gupta renounced the throne after denouncing mistreatment and broken promises.<\/p>\n
The contest -conquered in previous years by representatives from Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, the United States, among others- is followed by millions of people, especially in Latin America and Southeast Asia, where beauty pageants continue to enjoy widespread popularity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
