{"id":487329,"date":"2025-10-18T19:38:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T23:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/puerto-rico-joins-protests-against-trumps-authoritarian-policies\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T19:40:24","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T23:40:24","slug":"puerto-rico-joins-protests-against-trumps-authoritarian-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/puerto-rico-joins-protests-against-trumps-authoritarian-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Puerto Rico joins protests against Trump&#8217;s authoritarian policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>San Juan<\/strong>.- Hundreds of people gathered this Saturday in front of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prp.uscourts.gov\/offices\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.prp.uscourts.gov\/offices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Court<\/a> of San Juan to denounce the &#8220;authoritarian, racist and dictatorial&#8221; policies of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, within the framework of a day of protests under the slogan &#8220;No King&#8217;s&#8221; (&#8220;We don&#8217;t want kings&#8221;), which echoed in several cities in the United States and the world.\n\nThe demonstration, called by social, union, and human rights organizations, joined the simultaneous mobilizations held in New York, Washington, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Diego, San Francisco, and other US cities, as well as in European cities such as Berlin, Paris, and Rome, in rejection of the growing authoritarianism of the Republican president.\n\nDuring the concentration in San Juan, the protesters carried anti-fascist and anti-racist banners, chanting slogans such as &#8220;No human being is illegal&#8221;, &#8220;Let the federal go, nobody is illegal here&#8221;, and &#8220;What the people need is anti-racist awareness&#8221;.\n\nThe director and founder of the human rights organization Kil\u00f3metro 0, Mari Mari Narv\u00e1ez, expressed that Puerto Rico, as a colony of the United States, directly suffers from the &#8220;neofascist and violent&#8221; policies promoted by the Trump Administration.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a colony of the United States, Puerto Rico is tremendously impacted by the death policies that the Donald Trump government is implementing,\u201d Narv\u00e1ez stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe activist also criticized the use of Puerto Rican territory as a platform for military operations and immigration persecution policies against Dominicans and Haitians, whom she described as &#8220;Caribbean neighbors who have done no harm.&#8221;\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur people have fought for decades against the remilitarization of this archipelago and now they are using us again as a platform for aggression,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nFor his part, Manuel Rodr\u00edguez, spokesperson for the organization Democratic Socialism, explained that although the protests in Puerto Rico are added to those called in the United States, they also respond to demands specific to the Puerto Rican people.\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You can also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/ab.deultimominuto.net\/internacionales\/dominicano-figura-entre-victimas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dominican among the victims in Puerto Rico<\/a><\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n&#8220;We believe that the situation in the United States is very important, but in Puerto Rico we have additional demands.
