Santo Domingo<\/strong>. – The Dominican Republic’s Meteorology Institute (INDOMET) reported that it is closely monitoring an active tropical wave associated with a low-pressure center located several hundred kilometers south of the Dominican Republic, in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, with a high probability of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours.<\/p>\n

Similarly, it is expected to continue moving west in the next few hours. Cloudy fields associated with this system are forecast to generate heavy showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts during the week over the country. This system currently has a high probability of cyclonic development in the next 7 days, (90%).<\/p>\n

Due to the rainfall and the forecast, alert levels and meteorological warnings are maintained due to the risk of urban and rural flooding, as well as of rivers, streams and ravines, mainly in vulnerable sectors, as shown in the following table:<\/p>\n

Since the early hours of the morning, scattered cloud developments accompanied by showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts are occurring, mainly over the waters of the Caribbean Sea and provinces such as San Crist\u00f3bal, Peravia, Barahona, Pedernales without ruling out the GSD. These conditions are due to the humidity and instability provided by the active tropical wave, whose cloud bands continue to enter the country, generating heavy showers, wind gusts and occasional thunderstorms, which will be more frequent in the afternoon. If its organization continues, this tropical wave could become tropical cyclone # 11 named Melissa.<\/p>\n

For tomorrow, Wednesday, the direct impact of this active tropical wave or possible tropical cyclone is forecast, which will be located south\/southwest of the national territory. This system will generate abundant humidity and instability over our forecast area, favoring the development of significant cloud cover with heavy showers, electrical storms, and wind gusts. The effects of this phenomenon will be felt over a large part of the country, especially in the northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest regions, as well as in the Central Mountain Range and the border area, where urban runoff and flash floods could occur. The population is advised to remain attentive to the evolution of this system and the information issued in our official bulletins.<\/p>\n

Santo Domingo Oeste: Occasional cloud increases with scattered showers. Afternoon of moderate to heavy downpours and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

Temperatures: the minimum will be between 21 \u00b0C and 23 \u00b0C and the maximum between 31 \u00b0C and 32 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Summary: Active tropical wave associated with a low-pressure center located south of the Dominican Republic could become Cyclone Melissa in the next 24 to 48 hours\u2026 19 Meteorological Alerts and Warnings remain in effect\u2026 High rainfall accumulations are expected in different sectors of the country in the coming days\u2026 Both coasts with recommendations, especially the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

During Thursday and Friday, tropical cyclone Melissa is expected to continue strengthening, so, in addition to the rains that occurred previously, moderate to heavy, even torrential, rainfall will persist in a scattered manner, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts.
