All countries are present and the United States, being the world’s largest economy, must be there.”\n\nWhite House’s harsh response\nWhite House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt harshly responded to the South African leader.\n\n“The United States is not going to participate in the official G20 talks in South Africa. I saw the South African president openly criticizing the United States and its president, and that language is not to the liking of the president (Trump),” Lavitt snapped in the White House press room.\n\nThe spokesperson clarified that the participation of the U.S. will be limited to the assistance of the charg\u00e9 d’affaires (number two) of the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, Marc Dillard, to the ceremony in which South Africa must cede this Sunday the rotating presidency of the group, which Washington will assume from December 1st.\n\nBut Ramaphosa’s spokesman, Vincent Magwenya, was quick to respond on social media X that “the president will not hand over the post to a caretaker.”\n\nOn the 7th, Trump stated that “it is a real shame that the G20 summit is being held in South Africa”, arguing that Afrikaners (South Africans descended from Dutch settlers) “are being murdered and massacred” and their lands “illegally confiscated”, something that Pretoria firmly denies.\n\nThe absence of Trump will not be the only one of a head of state.
