The historic catcher was officially designated captain of the vinotinto team, consolidating his role as a central figure of a team that will seek to make history in March.\n\n\n

The veteran has been present in each edition since 2013, when he debuted at just 23 years old and before becoming a multiple All-Star Game selection.\n\n\n

A leader with World Cup star numbers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\nHis most outstanding performance in the tournament came in 2023, when he was a key player for Venezuela to be one step away from the semifinals. That year, P\u00e9rez batted for .429\/.467\/.929<\/strong> with a home run, four doubles and six RBIs, five of them in the memorable 9-6 victory over Puerto Rico. His performance led him to be part of the All-Star Team<\/strong> of the event.\n\nIn eight games played in Classics, P\u00e9rez accumulates an outstanding offensive line of .346\/.393\/.808<\/strong>, with two home runs and eight RBIs.\n\n\n

Manager Omar L\u00f3pez bets on his leadership<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\nLeader Omar L\u00f3pez had announced months ago that P\u00e9rez, along with Jos\u00e9 Altuve, would be one of the pillars of the selection towards the 2026 tournament.\n\n\u201cSalvador P\u00e9rez and Jos\u00e9 Altuve can serve as the guide or standard-bearers of our national team<\/strong>\u201d, L\u00f3pez pointed out. \u201cOur strength will be the depth of the team; we will have a great pitching staff for this upcoming World Baseball Classic\u201d.\n\n\n
