We urge G20 members to reaffirm its continued functioning in the spirit of multilateralism, based on consensus.”\n\nFinally, the Presidency considered it “regrettable” that, despite the “efforts and numerous attempts” by Ramaphosa and his Government to “restore diplomatic relations” with the United States, Trump continues to apply “punitive measures against South Africa based on misinformation and distortions about our country”.\n\nIn a discreet act held at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation in Pretoria, South Africa officially ceded this Tuesday the rotating presidency of the G20 to the United States, after refusing to do so last Sunday at the closing of the summit, as is tradition, due to the low rank of the official designated by Washington to take over.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
