{"id":493522,"date":"2025-12-04T17:14:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T21:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/the-inabie-inaugurates-school-kitchens-and-gardens-built-in-six-schools-in-san-juan-with-the-technical-support-of-fao\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T17:14:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T21:14:12","slug":"the-inabie-inaugurates-school-kitchens-and-gardens-built-in-six-schools-in-san-juan-with-the-technical-support-of-fao","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/uncategorized\/the-inabie-inaugurates-school-kitchens-and-gardens-built-in-six-schools-in-san-juan-with-the-technical-support-of-fao\/","title":{"rendered":"The Inabie inaugurates school kitchens and gardens built in six schools in San Juan with the technical support of FAO"},"content":{"rendered":"<em><strong>San Juan, R.D.<\/strong>\u2013<\/em> The National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) put six kitchens and six school gardens into operation in educational centers in this province, an initiative that seeks to raise the quality, safety and efficiency of the food service in schools, while promoting pedagogical spaces for practical learning in agriculture, nutrition and sustainability for the entire educational community.\n\nThe facilities were enabled in the schools Hermano Crist\u00f3bal, Asenci\u00f3n Fortuna Valdez, Filomena de Oleo Mesa, Polit\u00e9cnico San Pablo, Hortencia P\u00e9rez and Milagros Rodr\u00edguez S\u00e1nchez, directly impacting more than 20,000 students, teachers, staff of the study centers and families in the area.\n\n&#8220;These kitchens and gardens represent a firm step towards a safer, more varied, and dignified school food for our students. We are strengthening not only the service, but also the learning capacity and community participation in each territory,&#8221; said the executive director of Inabie, Adolfo P\u00e9rez, when giving a speech at the inauguration ceremony, held at the San Pablo Polytechnic and the Hortensia P\u00e9rez Educational Center of this province.\n\nCongresswoman Soraya Su\u00e1rez, coordinator of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger; Dr. Mariella Ortega Rabassa, specialist in Food Security and Nutrition at FAO; and Eulalio Ram\u00edrez, Vice Minister of Production of the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of continuing to promote initiatives that strengthen food security, promote local production, and guarantee a more nutritious and sustainable school feeding program.\n\nThe representatives of the schools benefited in this first stage, Alida Ota\u00f1o, Ana Montero, Juan S\u00e1nchez, Ana Hidalgo, Wendy Pe\u00f1a and Catalina Valdez, expressed their gratitude for having been included in the beginning of this project, which strengthens the quality and safety of school meals.\n\nMiriam Guzm\u00e1n, Vice Minister of Agriculture, Fernando Campos, in charge of School Gardens of the Ministry of Education, Patricia Grull\u00f3n, Director of Nutrition of Public Health, as well as the deputy directors of INABIE, Luis Valdez, Melvin Ram\u00edrez and Mercedes P\u00e9rez Ceballos, along with the directors of Health and Nutrition, Luis Lizardo, and Food Management, Luis N\u00fa\u00f1ez Fabal, also participated in the event.\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Integrated Development Environments<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\nThe director of Inabie also highlighted that the new kitchens incorporate state-of-the-art equipment such as industrial stoves, water filters, extractors, ventilation systems, hygiene and fruit areas, among others, which will allow the preparation of more nutritious menus, reduce health risks and improve the working times and conditions of the staff.\n\nAlso, &#8220;school gardens will serve as living laboratories for learning, fostering nutritional and environmental education, the development of skills in sustainable agriculture, and understanding the origin of food,&#8221; he added.\n\nThe selection of the centers was carried out jointly between INABIE and FAO, taking into account technical diagnoses that prioritized schools with large enrollment, infrastructure limitations for food preparation, availability of land suitable for orchards, and school leadership.\n\n&#8220;These school gardens and kitchens strengthen the resilience of educational communities and promote more sustainable food systems. Working with Inabie constitutes a model that can be replicated nationally,&#8221; highlighted Rodrigo Casta\u00f1eda, FAO representative in the Dominican Republic.\n\nWithin the framework of this project, kitchen equipment and infrastructure adjustments are included, as well as training, technical support, monitoring, and educational activities.\n\nThese actions are part of the technical cooperation agreement between Inabie and FAO, supported by the Healthy Schools project, aimed at strengthening school feeding, environmental education, and community resilience through educational centers in the Dominican Republic.\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Inabie-FAO Alliance<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\nWithin the framework of this agreement, 50 orchards and 36 kitchens have been installed, distributed in San Juan, Monte Plata, Azua, La Vega and Santiago.
