Tegucigalpa.- Honduras<\/strong> is experiencing relative calm this Friday during the electoral recount, which continues slowly five days after the general elections on Sunday, in a scrutiny marked by reports of irregularities, delays in results, and calls for serenity.<\/p>\n\n\nAccording to the National Electoral Council (CNE), around 11:00 local time (17:00 GMT), and with 87.81%<\/strong> counted, the candidate Nasry ‘Tito’ Asfura, from the conservative National Party, leads the count by a narrow margin, with 1,129,140 votes (40.2%) against 1,109,020 votes (39.5%) for Salvador Nasralla, from the Liberal Party.\n\n\n

You may be interested in:<\/strong> Honduras recorded 7,746 violent deaths of women between 2005 and 2024<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nThe official figures released by the electoral body show a difference of just over 20,000 votes between both conservative candidates, in a count marked by fluctuations and the review of a percentage of records with inconsistencies.\n\nAsfura, for whom the U.S. President, Donald Trump, asked for the vote, called on Thursday for “serenity” and to respect the course of the process, and highlighted the civic behavior of the population.\n\n“The stability of the country is above any personal ambition. I ask for serenity, it’s a matter of time, the CNE will give the final results,” Asfura underlined in a message on his social media, in which he also appealed for unity and hope.\n\nThe conservative candidate, who has not had many appearances before the press, added that he will not contribute to generating uncertainty while the electoral body concludes the scrutiny.\n\n“I have always been firm and clear in my positions and without attacks. Today will not be different, I will not go out to say inconsistencies or feed the uncertainty,” he emphasized.\n\nFor his part, Nasralla denounced on Thursday that during the early hours a “blackout” had been registered in the system and that an “algorithm” had modified the allocation of votes in favor of Asfura, and demanded an investigation into the company responsible for the election results portal, as he told EFE.\n\nNasralla’s complaint has increased political pressure and prompted calls for calm from different sectors, while electoral authorities have stated that they will exhaust the processes of verification of the records.\n\nThe scrutiny process has suffered at least two technical incidents on the CNE’s results transmission platform and, given the fluctuations in the cuts, the authorities decided to expand controls and proceed with manual reviews in some batches of records, measures that have delayed the final publication.\n\nInternational observers, such as the Organization of American States (OAS), and regional organizations are closely following the process. ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
