The President argues that as of today, the Legislative Assembly has not communicated to his office the protocol for the appearance. There is no clarity on what the rules and conditions agreed upon by the deputies are,” indicated the Presidential House in a statement.\n\n\n

Read more:Who is Rodrigo Chaves, the new president-elect of Costa Rica?<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\nAccording to the official document, Chaves, who has the right to speak for 30 minutes, “wants to avoid facing last-minute changes”, and also alluded to the possibility that Congress will break quorum “in the face of the probability that they do not have enough votes”.\n\n“The President believes that the most respectful decision towards the owners of the homeland, the people of Costa Rica, is not to lend itself to political interests above the clear evidence that, in this case, there is no transgression of the law or the Constitution,” concluded the Presidential House, which described the process as “unnecessary noise in the midst of a political campaign.”\n\nThe Costa Rican Congress plans to vote this Tuesday on whether to lift President Chaves’ immunity so that he can face complaints about alleged interference in politics that are being processed by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), which could lead to a future suspension from holding public office and even his removal.\n\nThis is a file with 15 complaints of political belligerence, which consists of the intervention of the president in politics or in the electoral campaign. Chaves has described the process as a “circus” and a “buffa opera”.\n\nIn Costa Rica, where there is no consecutive re-election, various officials, including the president and their cabinet, are unable to participate or exert influence in electoral campaigns, as well as to use their positions to benefit or harm any political party, and to participate in discussions or political-electoral activities.\n\nA Chaves, who will end his term next May, is accused of having engaged in political belligerence during official acts against opposition parties and leaders, and of influencing the campaign towards the February 1, 2026 elections, such as with requests for the election of a majority of “patriotic” deputies willing to reform the institutions of the State.\n\nThis is the second impeachment process being processed against the president.
