You may be interested in:<\/strong> They denounce delay in corpse delivery and demand security in Herrera<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nZapeta’s body was found on an abandoned lot in the department (province) of Suchitep\u00e9quez, located about 150 kilometers southwest of Guatemala City.\n\nThe Guatemalan Journalists Association (APG), of which Zapeta was a member, expressed in a press release its repudiation of the crime and demanded that the authorities find those responsible for the alleged homicide.\n\nZapeta, 56 years old, had been missing since last Sunday and according to local media, the cause of death was due to blows to the chest.\n\nThe journalistic guild added that, according to the communicator’s family, Zapeta had received death threats during the current year.\n\nThe journalist worked on a local online page in Suchitep\u00e9quez and had more than two decades of experience in his profession.\n\nLast March, another Guatemalan journalist, Ismael Alonzo Gonz\u00e1lez, was shot dead in the department of Quetzaltenango, in the west of the Central American country.\n\nIn addition to Zapeta and Alonzo, at least four other journalists have been murdered in Guatemala in the last three years.\n\nThe country presided over by Bernardo Ar\u00e9valo de Le\u00f3n has one of the weakest judicial systems in the region, and more than 90 percent of the homicides recorded in its territory go unpunished, according to official calculations and international organizations.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
