Rome,.- Pope Leo XIV <\/strong>said this Tuesday that he is “very disappointed”<\/strong> by the signing by the governor of the state of Illinois, JB Pritzker, of the bill that allows some adults with terminal illnesses to commit suicide with medical assistance.<\/p>\n\n\nThe Pope, an American and precisely from Chicago, Illinois, explained that in his recent meeting with Pritzker they already talked about it. “We were very clear about the need to respect the sacredness of life, from beginning to end<\/strong>,” the Pope told the media as he left his residence in Castel Gandolfo.\n\n\n

“And, unfortunately, for different reasons, he decided to sign that bill. I am very disappointed by it. I would invite all people, especially during these Christmas holidays, to reflect on the nature of human life, the goodness of human life,”<\/strong> he added.<\/p>\n\n\nAnd he added: “God became human like us to show us what it really means to love human life. And I hope and pray that respect for life will grow again in all moments of human existence, from conception to natural death.”\n\nThe Medical Aid and Dying Act will come into effect on September 12th in Illinois and allows adults with terminal illnesses, with a life expectancy of a maximum of six months, the option to request from their doctor a prescription that they can take themselves to die on their own terms.\n\nThe rule is also in that state as the ‘Deb’s Law’ in honor of Illinois resident Deb Robertson, who lives with a rare disease.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
