Beijing.-<\/strong> China declared this Thursday that the dispute over the operation of the TikTok<\/strong> video application in the US must be resolved “through cooperation” and “in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations”.<\/p>\n\n\nThe spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce<\/strong>, He Yongqian<\/strong>, spoke out after information emerged about the platform’s agreements with three investors to create a new company in the United States, recalling that any agreement of this type must have Beijing’s green light.\n\nHe recalled that the economic teams of both countries reached a long time ago a “basic framework consensus” to channel the case<\/strong> and that the Chinese government “hopes that companies will reach a solution of balance of interests”.\n\nHe also urged Washington to “act in the same direction” and to offer Chinese companies a “fair, open, transparent and non-discriminatory” environment that “promotes the stable, healthy and sustainable development of economic and trade relations” between the two powers.\n\nThe spokesperson did not offer details on technology licenses, intellectual property, or schedules.\n\nThe statements followed information released in China and the United States about the proposed architecture for operations in the North American country.\n\nAccording to an internal statement from TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance<\/strong>, ByteDance<\/a>, referenced by both Chinese and American media, the company agreed to sell its U.S. operations to a holding company led by investors from the North American country.\n\nThat scheme provides for a joint participation of 45% for Oracle, Silver Lake and the Emirati fund MGX; around 33% for subsidiaries of the main investors of ByteDance, and around 18% for ByteDance itself.\n\n\n

The document indicates that the agreement must be closed on January 22nd<\/strong>, the day before the deadline given to the Department of Justice to suspend TikTok’s operations in the U.S. if a new company sufficiently detached from ByteDance has not been established, as established by a law passed by the U.S. Congress in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe rule argues national security reasons and points out that ByteDance should not have access to the servers that store the data<\/strong> of the users of the popular short video application.\n\n\n
