So, the judges indicated that Sengar could not be considered a “public servant” nor a person “in a position of trust or authority”, requirements necessary to apply the figure of aggravated rape that allows the imposition of a life sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also read:<\/strong> The Kremlin says Putin will speak with Trump by phone soon<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nHowever, the Supreme Court of India considered in an order this Monday that there are “various substantial questions of law”, without specifying which ones, that justify examining the suspension of the life sentence handed down by the Delhi High Court.\n\n“Considering these circumstances, we deem it appropriate to suspend the execution of the contested order dated 23.12.2025, issued by the High Court (of Delhi),” the Supreme Court said in its order this Monday, signed by a bench comprising the Chief Justice, Surya Kant, and Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Augustine George Masih.\n\nThe condemned may appeal the Supreme Court’s decision and file an appeal.\n\nThe parliamentarian Sengar has been imprisoned for more than seven years, the sentence that the Delhi Supreme Court indicated could be considered a minimum sentence if justice is applied in rape cases without the aggravating factor of public service or position of power.\n\nThe rape was committed by Sengar in June 2017 at his residence to which a young woman, then a minor, went to look for work, in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.\n\nThe case grabbed media attention in India after it was revealed that the parliamentarian had pressured the young woman’s family to withdraw the complaint filed with the Police.\n\nThe young woman’s father was later arrested for illegal weapons possession after the rape came to light and died in police custody, allegedly due to a beating by Sengar’s supporters.\n\nIn June 2019, the young woman who accused the politician suffered a traffic accident in which she was injured and two of her relatives died. Immediately, the case regained attention due to the family’s suspicions that an attempt was being made on the young woman’s life.\n\nIn statements to the Indian media this Monday, the victim of the rape, whose identity remains anonymous, was “very satisfied” with the decision of this Monday by the Supreme Court of India.\n\n“I had faith in the Court.
