{"id":496380,"date":"2026-01-01T17:41:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T21:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/government-says-it-reduced-neonatal-mortality-by-16-during-2025\/"},"modified":"2026-01-01T17:41:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T21:41:51","slug":"government-says-it-reduced-neonatal-mortality-by-16-during-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/government-says-it-reduced-neonatal-mortality-by-16-during-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Government says it reduced neonatal mortality by 16% during 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The Dominican government claims to have reduced <strong>neonatal mortality by 16% during 2025<\/strong>, as a result of the actions implemented by the National Health Service (SNS) to strengthen care for mothers and their newborns.<\/p>\n\n\nAccording to the <strong>Epidemiological Bulletin of Week 51<\/strong>, issued by the Epidemiology Directorate (DIEPI), <strong>294 fewer neonatal deaths were recorded than in 2024<\/strong>, figures that could improve by the end of the epidemiological year.\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/Gobierno afirma triplic\u00f3 de 2,500 a 7,400 patients de medicamentos de alto costo desde 2020\">http:\/\/Gobierno afirma triplic\u00f3 de 2,500 a 7,400 patients de medicamentos de alto costo desde 2020<\/a><\/p>\n\n\nThe SNS highlighted that this progress is based on the strengthening of the maternal-infant hospital network, which allowed the year 2026 to begin with births in optimal health conditions in centers such as the &#8220;Hospital San Lorenzo de Los Mina&#8221; and the &#8220;Maternidad Reynaldo Alm\u00e1nzar&#8221;.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Actions of the NHS<\/h3>\n\n\nThrough the Maternal and Child and Adolescent Directorate, the SNS develops programs aimed at reducing the main causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality in the country: <strong>prematurity, perinatal asphyxia and sepsis associated with care<\/strong>.\n\nThe strategy is based on five pillars: <strong>infrastructure and innovation, continuing education, timely neonatal transfers, prevention of healthcare-associated infections, and strengthening of the Kangaroo Mother Program<\/strong>.\n\nDuring the current administration, headed by Dr. <strong>Mario Lama<\/strong>, <strong>eight Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)<\/strong> were inaugurated in different provinces of the country. Between January and October 2025, these units offered <strong>7,925 hospitalization services<\/strong>, contributing to the decentralization of specialized neonatal care.\n\nIn addition, programs such as <strong>therapeutic hypothermia<\/strong> were strengthened to reduce neurological sequelae from perinatal asphyxia, the prevention of sepsis through unit-dose units in neonatal ICU, and the timely diagnosis of congenital heart defects.\n\nIn terms of training, the SNS maintains alliances with the <strong>Ibero-American Society of Neonatology (SIBEN)<\/strong> and non-governmental organizations, ensuring the continuous updating of medical and Nursing staff in neonatal units.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comprehensive care for newborns<\/h3>\n\n\nThe <strong>Kangaroo Mother Program<\/strong>, implemented in <strong>25 hospitals<\/strong>, benefited <strong>3,461 premature and low-weight babies<\/strong> between January and October 2025.
