Switzerland.- The theory that the fire that ravaged a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana on New Year’s Eve started from sparklers placed in champagne bottles is the most likely to explain the origin of the fire, prosecutor Beatrice Pilloud said today.<\/p>\n
The fire resulted in at least 40 deaths and 119 injuries, several of them Italian. These pyrotechnic elements “got too close to the ceiling, which caught fire very quickly and in a general way,” said the attorney general of the canton of Valais (to which Crans Montana belongs) at a press conference.<\/p>\n
He explained that this lead is being followed, which is not one hundred percent definitive, after the analysis of videos taken with phones of people who were in the damaged venue, as well as by the testimonies of survivors and the hearings of the two people in charge of the establishment.<\/p>\n
Both explained the interior configuration of the premises, the work that had been carried out on it and its capacity, which was not specified by the prosecutor. However, she indicated that it will be very difficult to establish the exact number of people who were there when the fire occurred, since a bar is a place from which people come and go continuously.<\/p>\n
