Washington.-<\/strong> The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS)<\/a><\/strong> will meet extraordinarily next Tuesday, January 6, to analyze the situation in Venezuela following the capture by the United States of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, the international organization reported this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\nThe session was convened at the request of the Permanent Mission of Colombia<\/strong>, whose Government rejected today, along with Spain, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay, what they call “military actions unilaterally executed in Venezuelan territory”.\n\nIn addition to the interventions of representatives of the member states, it is also expected that the secretary general of the bloc, Surinamese Albert Ramdin, will speak at the end of the meeting.\n\nMaduro was arrested in the early hours of this Saturday in Caracas along with his wife, Cilia Flores, during a Washington lightning operation dubbed ‘Absolute Resolution’, to then be transferred to New York, where he faces charges of drug trafficking and corruption.\n\nHours after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the capture of the president of Venezuela and announced that his country would govern the South American nation until there is a transition, the OAS urged Washington and Caracas to “prevent further escalation” and support a peaceful solution to the situation.\n\nIn a statement, the international body also called for a path forward in Venezuela that “sustains governance based on the will of its people.”\n\n\n
