Rome.-<\/strong> The governments of Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Denmark have defended Greenland’s sovereignty this Tuesday against the claims of the United States, in a joint declaration in which they call the security of the Arctic “a priority” for Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n“Greenland belongs to its people. It is solely up to Denmark and Greenland to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland,” reads the statement released by the Italian government of Giorgia Meloni.\n\n\n

The security of the Arctic, a priority for Europe<\/h2>\n\n\nThe document has been endorsed by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz; the Italian Prime Minister; and their Polish counterparts, Donald Tusk; British, Keir Starmer and Danish, Mette Frederiksen.\n\n\n

The Kingdom of Denmark \u2014including Greenland\u2014 is part of NATO\u00bb, they assert.\n\n\n

Collaboration with the U.S.<\/h2>\n\n\nThe seven countries have considered that “security in the Arctic must be achieved, therefore, collectively, in coordination with NATO allies, including the United States, respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter.”\n\nAmong these principles, they cite “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders”.\n\n\n
