In his last season as a professional, in addition to being crowned champion of the Giro, he achieved a stage victory in the <strong>Tour de France<\/strong>, consolidating a record that includes partial victories in the three major tours and the general classification of the <strong>Tirreno-Adriatico<\/strong>.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Thoughtful Decision<\/h3>\n\n\nThrough a statement released by his team, the rider born in <strong>Bury<\/strong> explained that the decision was not impulsive.\n\u201cI have decided to retire from professional cycling. It may surprise many, but it is a decision I have considered for a long time. I felt this was the right time to step aside,\u201d he expressed.\n\nYates recalled that cycling has been an essential part of his life from an early age, from his beginnings at the Manchester velodrome to reaching the top of the world sport and representing his country in Olympic competitions.\n\n&#8220;I am deeply proud of what I have achieved and very grateful for everything that cycling has taught me. Not only the victories marked my career, but also the difficult moments, which helped me grow and value each success even more,&#8221; he added.\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acknowledgements and recognition<\/h3>\n\n\nThe British cyclist thanked the support received throughout his career, both from the technical staff and his teammates, as well as the constant support of his family. He also highlighted the team&#8217;s understanding of his decision to retire.\n\nFor his part, <strong>Grischa Niermann<\/strong>, sports director of Visma | Lease a Bike, regretted Yates&#8217; departure, although he acknowledged the magnitude of his legacy.<br>\u201cIt&#8217;s a shame that Simon is retiring now, especially after such a brilliant season.
