Washington.-<\/strong> U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Friday that he has received “a great many” inquiries from oil companies interested in the possibility of investing in Venezuela, hours before U.S. President Donald Trump meets with representatives of the hydrocarbons sector.<\/p>\n\n\n“I have received a great many requests from companies interested in going to Venezuela and, so far, none have asked for money. What they want is for the United States to use its influence so that the commercial conditions in Venezuela are conducive to their operations,” Wright said in conversation with the Fox News network.\n\nThe U.S. energy official insisted that it’s about Trump “changing the conditions (in Venezuela) so that companies want to return for commercial reasons.”\n\nWright’s statements come after the capture last Saturday of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and the agreement with the interim government of Caracas to manage the sale of up to 50 million barrels of sanctioned crude oil that the South American country will send him.\n\n\n

Shortly before the meeting, the Republican president highlighted on his Truth Social network that “the world’s largest oil companies” will participate in the meeting. “Everyone wants to attend,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n“We apologize to those oil companies we cannot receive today, but Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will receive them during the next week. Everyone is in daily contact,” he said.\n\n\n

Although few official details about the meeting have been released, according to US media, representatives from Repsol, Chevron, Exxon, ConocoPhillips, Continental, Halliburton, HKN, Valero, Marathon, Shell, Trafigura, Vitol Americas, Eni, Aspect Holdings, Tallgrass, Raisa Energy and Hilcorp will participate.<\/p>\n\n\nIn the case of the Spanish company Repsol, it is the Iberian company that maintains the greatest economic and strategic link with Venezuela, where it has been operating for more than 30 years and where it has mining rights, although most of it remains undeveloped.\n\nThe U.S. government revoked last May the permits for Repsol to export crude oil and derivatives from Venezuela, as it did with the Italian Eni or the American Global Oil Terminals, the firms that then operated in the Caribbean country along with the American Chevron.\n\n\n
