Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>The Eng. Lorenzo David Ram\u00edrez<\/strong>, general director of Pasaportes<\/a>, assured that the implementation of the electronic passport<\/strong> constitutes a key tool to advance towards the Schengen visa exemption<\/strong> for Dominican citizens. <\/p>\n\n\nRam\u00edrez explained that this modern and secure document was one of the elements that the European community<\/strong> expected to continue with the negotiations and evaluations around this process.\n\nRam\u00edrez pointed out that the conversations with the countries of the Schengen area were at an advanced stage and that it is now up to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX)<\/strong> to deepen technical and diplomatic exchanges, demonstrating that the Dominican Republic has a reliable, secure and aligned document to international standards<\/strong>.\n\nThe official highlighted that, with the implementation of the electronic passport, the country is positioned in a better scenario for European authorities to definitively evaluate the possibility of eliminating the visa requirement. “We are getting closer,” he affirmed, in a meeting with opinion leaders, emphasizing that this advance strengthens the credibility of the Dominican identification system<\/strong> and opens new mobility opportunities for citizens.\n\n\n
