The government of <strong>the United States<\/strong> is heading towards another partial shutdown starting this Saturday <strong>(one minute after midnight on Friday)<\/strong> if the Democratic senators fulfill their threat and do not support the allocation for the Department of Homeland Security in the midst of controversy over the death of <strong>Alex Pretti,<\/strong> by shots from border agents on Saturday in Minnesota.\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shutdown, which would paralyze the normal activity of the federal administration, would be added to the 43-day shutdown that <strong>the United States<\/strong> already experienced between October 1 and November 12, 2025, and which became the longest in the history of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/Marco Rubio: &quot;We would love to see a regime change in Cuba&quot;\">http:\/\/Marco Rubio: &#8220;We would love to see a regime change in Cuba&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the controversy over the <strong>Pretti<\/strong> case, the Democratic leader of the <strong>Senate, Chuck Schumer,<\/strong> announced that his caucus would not provide the 60 votes needed to approve the six-bill appropriations package if the current measure to fund the Department of Homeland Security, responsible for immigration and customs, is included. <\/p>\n\n\nThe Democrats, who are keeping a close eye on the open negotiation with the Republicans, demand the removal of that chapter from the budget package, while they move forward on the other five spending projects.\n\nThe Democratic opposition to increasing funds is also joined by doubts about what happened in Minnesota that are beginning to arise in Republican ranks.\n\nSenators <strong>Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, or Lisa Murkowski<\/strong> requested a full investigation into Pretti&#8217;s death, and independent <strong>Angus King<\/strong> warned that he could block the package if the migration funding is not modified and even considered federal actions as <strong>&#8220;outside the Constitution.&#8221;<\/strong>\n\nThe partial government shutdown would affect key federal services and would increase economic uncertainty at a time of maximum dollar weakness and with emergencies due to cold weather storms.\n\nThe snowstorm crossing the United States adds to the political tension this week as it forced the cancellation of the Senate session last Monday, January 26, further reducing the hours available for negotiation before Friday the 30th.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington.&#8211;
