According to their explanation, they now intend to intervene only one kilometer, which they consider a breach of the commitment made to the community.\n\nThe road represents a vital connection for more than 20 thousand people and is key to the economic boost of the Monte Plata province. Through this route, productive communities such as La Gu\u00e1zuma, Loma de la Gallina, Corozo, La Jag\u00fcita, Pens\u00f3n, Bohuco Colorao and El Mate are linked, areas recognized for the production of organic export cocoa, bananas and other agricultural products.\n\n\n

“Here we live off agricultural work. Without a road, there is no development. We are only asking for what has already been approved to be fulfilled: the full 5 kilometers,” expressed several of the protesters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe community members also recalled that President Luis Abinader has known about the situation of this road since before assuming the government, which is why they appeal to his direct intervention so that the work can be resumed and completed.\n\nAlthough they reiterated their willingness to dialogue, they warned that, if they do not receive a concrete response, they will continue to hold peaceful protests until the right to development of this historically forgotten community is respected.\n\n\n
