After appearing before a federal judge, Vargas D\u2019Olon, P\u00e9rez, and Amador Nova were sent to pretrial detention, while Benoit and Mart\u00ednez were granted bail with <strong>house arrest<\/strong>.\n\nDuring the investigation, agents conducted <strong>more than 30 controlled purchases<\/strong>, managing to seize more than <strong>one kilogram of fentanyl<\/strong>, more than <strong>200 grams of methamphetamine<\/strong>, and <strong>17 firearms<\/strong>. Laboratory analyses revealed that some of the fentanyl was mixed with <strong>bromazolam<\/strong>, a synthetic benzodiazepine associated with an increase in overdose cases.\n\nThe authorities accuse Vargas D\u2019Olon, Benoit, P\u00e9rez, Amador Nova, and V\u00e1squez of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. If found guilty, Vargas D\u2019Olon faces a mandatory minimum sentence of <strong>10 years in prison and up to life imprisonment<\/strong>, while Benoit, P\u00e9rez, and Amador Nova could receive sentences of up to <strong>40 years<\/strong>, and V\u00e1squez up to <strong>20 years<\/strong>.\n\nThe indictment also includes multiple charges related to the <strong>illegal arms trafficking<\/strong>, some of which carry maximum sentences of up to <strong>15 years in prison<\/strong>.
