“Some sectors are misinterpreting the amnesty law and the coexistence program. They already have plans and in due course I will show them to the country so that it is known who, from a luxurious hotel in the United States or Europe, intend to derail this process,”<\/strong> he said in a meeting with “victims of political violence” at the Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there I call for a genuine and true justice because enough is enough, enough is enough. This process (…) must be taken care of,” he continued.\n\nHe also indicated that all those who want to return to the country in the midst of this “healing process of hatred” are welcome.\n\nDelcy Rodr\u00edguez was sworn in as acting president on January 5 before Parliament, which is led by her brother Jorge Rodr\u00edguez, two days after the United States captured President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in an operation in Caracas.\n\nThe president has spoken of a “new political moment” after Maduro’s capture, ordering the review of cases of detainees for political reasons and promoting an amnesty law that was approved last Thursday.\n\nAccording to the president of the parliamentary commission for the fulfillment of the Amnesty, the Chavista Jorge Arreaza, a total of 2,021 people with precautionary measures and 177 prisoners have benefited from the law.\n\nBetween January 8 and February 22, the NGO Foro Penal had verified 464 releases in the South American country; and at least 65 releases since the amnesty was approved last Thursday.\n\nThis NGO differentiates full releases from parole, since in the latter the beneficiaries are released from prison, but with parole and precautionary measures, such as the prohibition of leaving the country or a regime of periodic presentation before courts.\n\nAccording to Foro Penal records, at least 400 political prisoners could be excluded from the amnesty, while the NGO counts more than 600 detainees for these reasons who remain incarcerated, while the Government denies that there are people detained in Venezuela for political reasons and assures that they committed crimes.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
