These components are key to ensuring transparent measurement, system stability, and the continuity of the electricity supply.

You may be interested in:http://EDEESTE dismantles clandestine underground connection in a building with 11 apartments in La Romana

The company warned that electricity fraud is becoming the worst enemy of service quality. Each tampered meter, each removed seal, and each illegal intervention in the grid generates technical imbalances, overloads, interruptions, and risks of fires or electrical accidents. In addition to representing a crime, these practices deteriorate the infrastructure, increase breakdowns, and reduce the response capacity to legitimate failures.

EDEESTE explained that the impact is not only economic. The diversion of resources towards the constant replacement of damaged equipment limits investments destined for network modernization, automation, preventive maintenance and voltage improvement, directly affecting customers who do comply with the payment of the service.

The distributor particularly recalled the situation that occurred in the municipality of Quisqueya, where on three separate occasions hundreds of newly installed meters in businesses and shops in the area were destroyed. These events not only represented millionaire losses in equipment, but also forced the redirection of technical brigades and operational resources that were destined for other improvement projects in the region.

“When meters are destroyed or networks are tampered with, it doesn’t affect an abstract company; it affects entire communities, formal businesses, and families that depend on a stable service for their development,” the company indicated.

EDEESTE reiterated that these actions deepen the financial deficit of the system and compromise its sustainability, while increasing the operating costs that ultimately impact the entire chain of the electricity sector.

The company made a firm call to civic awareness, underlining that the electrical system is a collective heritage that requires shared responsibility. Likewise, it informed that it will continue to strengthen coordination with the competent authorities to support the corresponding legal actions and stop the fraudulent practices that put at risk the energy security and development of the Eastern region.

EDEESTE reaffirmed its commitment to work for a more efficient, transparent, and sustainable service, urging the population to report any act of fraud or illegal manipulation that undermines the quality of service and the common good.

Santo Domingo. – The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (EDEESTE) reported that during the year 2025 it allocated RD$842,183,798.24 to the replacement of electrical materials damaged due to illegal manipulations, sabotage, and irregular connections detected in its concession area.
